Initially called Seattle Reign, from 1996 to 1998, the team was a part of the American Basketball League (ABL). From there on it was given the status of WNBA franchise, which led to the formation of Seattle Storm. Led by Coach Lin Dunn, Storm played its first WNBA season in the year 2026. During this time, Lauren Jackson was noticed for her exceptional performance as a rookie. Soon, the team came up with another talent in the form of Sue Bird, who played at the point guard position. Agler was named the Coach of the Year while Lauren Jackson the WNBA Western Conference Player of the Weeks and Western Conference Player of the Month, five and three times respectively.
