Ice Hockey is to Canada what Baseball is to the US. Life would not be the same in Canada without Ice Hockey. Folks in Kitchener, Ontario have a junior hockey team that they are very proud of. It is called the Kitchener Rangers. This team is no ordinary team in the Ontario Hockey League. It origins can be traced back to the late 40s and over the years it has brought some great names on the ice. These include David Clarkson, Mike Richards, Steve Mason, Steve Downie and Jeff Skinner. It boasts a long list of players that were inducted to the Ice Hockey Hall of Fame. The legends include Al MacInnis, Bill Barber, Larry Robinson and Paul Coffey. If you are a fan of ice hockey, then this is a great time to get hold of your Kitchener Rangers tickets and enjoy a fabulous time at a thrilling live sports event.
Originally the team was called Guelph Biltmore Mad Hatters. This name was soon changed to the Guelph Royals and by the time the team moved to Kitchener, Ontario, it was renamed Kitchener Rangers. They team had no big names and started out with a very rough first season. However, before the 1968 season, they had made it to the finals of their league on two occasions.
In the mid 60s through to the 70s the National Hockey League used to sponsor all junior teams. It was during this time that the team was approached by the New York Rangers and Kitchener Rangers were eventually bought for a dollar. Executives and board members of the team instantly agreed on turning the team to the community. The people of this small town backed the decision and coined an unofficial term in hockey history, "Community Owned." Henceforth, every person buying a ticket to a game was in essence an owner of the team. The stands were crowded and there were hardly any games where the hot dog stands remained unpopulated.
The result of these financial workings was that the foundation for forming a volunteer directorship program was set. To this day every ticket subscriber has the opportunity to become an elected member on the board of directors. The Kitchener Rangers are hence a unique team and the stakes are inherently high to perform well and to excel. The various departments encompassing team management such as, finance, policies making, shares, logistics etc are headed by 9 members from the Board of Directors. There is no doubt in the fact that the team is under some additional pressure due to this arrangement. However, over many decades it has gone from strength to strength since there is no gap of communication between the players and the loyal team supporters.
The Kitchener Rangers have supported their blue, white and red jerseys for nearly five decades now. Since the team was sponsored by a Major League giant, their initial uniforms were very easily identified to have association with the New York Rangers. It was only a matter of time that the Board of Directors began contemplating on how to boost their souvenir sales. After long and careful considerations, the management introduced an individual and unique Kitchener jersey that had a Texas Ranger style colt. By the late 90s this mascot had come and gone and today the official jersey of the team has a new theme completely. A military style crest in front of a red background and Ranger logos on the shoulders makes the team look more threatening than before.
The Kitchener Rangers have grown in time and proved their worth both on and off the ice rink. They have won eight championships and today under the guidance of coach Troy Smith, the team has made quite a reputation for itself. It has had some amazing players over the years and some of these stars have even made it to the Ice Hockey Hall of Fame. You can now book your Kitchener Rangers tickets and be a part of a riveting sports event that you will cherish for a long time.
