Jacksonville University's athletics teams for both Men and Women combined are called the Jacksonville Dolphins. Both sets of teams are the pride of their University who are followed and supported by their fans every step of the way. They are an amazing set of athletes that give everything they have to bring glory to their University. The Jacksonville Dolphins are currently members of the NCAA Division I, the Pioneer Football League, the National Lacrosse Conference and the Atlantic Sun Conference. Both Men and Women teams compete in different sports. There are some sports that have both women and men's teams like basketball, golf, cross country, lacrosse, rowing, tennis and soccer. Some sports are exclusively played by the women team like softball, track and field, volley ball and sand volleyball. Just like in women case there are some sports exclusively for men like baseball and football.
 
The basketball program started in the year 1949 and the Jacksonville Dolphins have participated in five NCAA championships till now.  The season of 1970 was their debut season in the NCAA where under the leadership of the legendary Artis Gilmore they went straight to the finals. It was a remarkable achievement by the team in its first season. Unfortunately they could not go all the way to lift the trophy and were beaten by UCLA. It was a historic season where they were the only team to amass one hundred points a game. They won the Atlantic Sun title in 2008-09 season.  The Baseball side of the Jacksonville Dolphins played its first ever match in 1957. It wasn't a part of any league for almost two decades and became a member of the Sun Belt Conference in 1978. That affiliation lasted for another two decades till they went and became members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The baseball team has played in over thirteen NCAA championships from 1968 till today where they came within a whisker of winning the World Series of College in 1976. 
 
The football side is a member of the Pioneer Football League. Jacksonville Dolphins made their debut in the 1998 season. They are a very successful football team that has won the league title twice. The first championship came there away in 2008 and they followed it up with another triumph two years later in 2010. It's a pretty big achievement for the side considering the face they became permanent member of the league in 2001.
 
On top of that the Jacksonville Dolphins women team is one of the pioneers of the National Lacrosse Conference. They have made constant progress in other sports as well over the years to become a very popular and respected name in University sports.
