Delaware State University's men’s basketball team is an important member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The university sports team has taken up the nickname Hornets and the basketball team. Delaware State University is historical African America school. In fact it was setup by the state of Delaware in 1891 as a dedicated college for black students. His successful career with North Carolina Central University before joining Delaware helped him guide the Hornets to success. Jackson was inducted into the North Carolina Central University Hall of Fame in 1997. This is in fact the head coach Jackson’s thirteenth consecutive year with the team.

The team’s home (Memorial Hall) is an arena with history and character. The stadium hosted its debut game in 1957, and has become a great local land mark in the city of Dover.
