Delaware State University's men's basketball team is an important member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The university sports team has taken up the nickname Hornets and the basketball team. Delaware State Hornets will be looking to show their sting when they participate in the 2012-13 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Delaware State University is historical African America school. In fact it was setup by the state of Delaware in 1891 as a dedicated college for black students. The team's secret weapon is their strategy power house, head coach Greg Jackson. He took the team to the NCAA tournament in 2005, where they ran into the one of the nation's top College basketball teams Duke. He played for Saint Paul's college, Virginia in the late seventies. His successful career with North Carolina Central University before joining Delaware helped him guide the Hornets to success. Jackson was inducted into the North Carolina Central University Hall of Fame in 1997. This is in fact the head coach Jackson's thirteenth consecutive year with the team.
 
Delaware State Hornets have a number of exciting talents on its roster. Six foot ten, Bryan Scott (center and forward) and Scott Sill (forward) have great potential. This year the team also has some great defensive players as well. Ashwell Boyd, Miles Bowman Jr. and Albert Thomas (amongst others) make for a great pool of guards. The team's home (Memorial Hall) is an arena with history and character. The stadium hosted its debut game in 1957, and has become a great local land mark in the city of Dover.
