Based in Clinton, Iowa, Clinton Lumberkings is a Class-A minor league team that plays in the Midwest League in affiliation with a Major League baseball team, Texas Rangers. Lumberkings became the member of Midwest league in 1954, which makes it the oldest team ever to be the member of Midwest League. Before having its affiliation with the Rangers, team had its affiliation with the Pirates from 1954 till 1958 and in 1966 to 1968, then with the White Sox in 1959 till 1965, later with the Pilots/Brewers 1969 till 1970, and then with the Tigers in 1971 till 1975, after that co-op affiliation with Tigers and White Sox in 1976, then with Dodgers in 1977 till 1979, subsequently with the Giants in 1980 till 1994, then with Padres in 1995 till 1998, then with Reds in 1999 till 2000, next with the Expos in 2001 till 2002 and finally with Rangers in 2003 till present. Lumberkings play their home games at Alliant Energy Field that was built with the name of Riverview Stadium in 1937, but in 2002, Alliant Energy Bought the naming rights of the field.

Throughout its long history with the Midwest League, team has seen some of the finest season and some season that were really terrible. Team has also seen some of the finest hitting performances as well, but the teams' history usually sheds light upon the pitchers mostly.

Riverview Stadium, now known as the Alliant Energy Field, is known for holding Clintons' matches since the team joined the ancestor of Midwest League, which was Mississippi Ohio Valley League in the year 1954. Alliant Energy Field went through its renovation in 2006, before the 20006 began.

History of professional baseball in Clinton, Iowa draws back from 1895, when it started playing for the Eastern Iowa League that held a group of cities that played the initial edition of baseball, which would later become one of the most favorite past time all across U.S. However first official league began in 1906 in Clinton, when Clinton Orphans got an entry in Class D of the Iowa State League.

Riverview Stadium was built as a Work Progress Administration project in 1937, which also signaled the return of baseball in Clinton. In the inaugural season of the Riverview Stadium, the Clinton Owls that were in affiliation with the Brooklyn Dodgers in the Three-I League finished first. Later in 2002, the stadiums' naming rights were bought by Alliant Energy, hence renaming the stadium to Alliant Energy Field. Recently the stadium has underwent several refurbishments that included the replacement of entire lighting system of the stadium along with a new clubhouse, expansion of both dugouts, installation of new drainage pipes and the renovation of covered batting cages.

As the World War II started in 1941, the professional baseball scene in Clinton was at hold but the local crowds kept on being entertained until 1947. At that time the stadium was being shared by the Central Association's Clinton Cubs, which was also a member of Industrial League.
