We have college football to thank for a lot. It is after all because of these inter-collegiate games that the sport is so popular today in the country. If you are a fan of the game and want to watch an exciting match between great teams from the best colleges from across America then Bridgepoint Holiday Bowl tickets are just what you need. This event is not all football but much more. It is not just the on field action that provides non-stop thrills to audience but there is plenty of pre-game entertainment and half-time fun that comes with it.
Every year, since 1978, the post season college football game, currently called the Bridgepoint Holiday Bowl after its sponsors, kicks off and attracts a turn-out of thousands. Sanctioned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) this game is played under the Division I-A of college football. Played at the Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, the 2012 Holiday Bowl is currently set up to be played by the third place team of the of the Pac- 12 conference and team number five of the Big-12. The Holiday Bowl was inaugurated with the tradition of pitting the champion of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) against an opponent at-large. For the first of the seven years of its existence, the team representing the Brigham Young University was the champion of this particular conference and was pitted against various opponents. Team BYU has played over ten Holiday Bowls, which is more than what any other team has had the chance to play. The game played by them in 1980 was nicknamed "The Miracle Bowl" as the BYU overcame a lead of twenty points by the opponents, the Southern Methodists, in the last part of the play. 1995 onwards, the WAC severed its ties with this event and then on other conferences stepped in to change the traditions.
The venue of the game is Qualcomm Stadium which was previously called the San Diego Stadium and Jack Murphy Stadium, a.k.a "The Murph" and. "The Q". The multi-purpose facility was inaugurated in 1967 and since then its seating capacity for the football arena has gone on increasing. It started off housing around fifty thousand but currently has the ability to accommodate over 70,000 football fanatics. At present it is home to the San Diego Chargers of NFL as well as the team of the San Diego State University Aztecs. Every December, other than the Holiday Bowl, it also hosts the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl.
Bridgepoint Holiday Bowl, as is evident by its title, is sponsored mainly by Bridgepoint Education which has a strong presence in San Diego as a community partner. A publically held enterprise, this company owns the University of the Rockies and Ashford University, both of which are for-profit institutions. Otherwise, Bridgepoint is involved in various welfare projects as well. Before 2010, the bowl's title sponsorship was held by Pacific Life. The Bridgepoint Holiday Bowl is a non- profit venture that was formed with the objective of generating economic benefits and enhancing tourism in San Diego. Over time it has proved its worth and continues achieving that goal every year. Also part of the various trimmings of the game, there is a Holiday Bowl scholarship award which is presented every year to a senior from high school from the locales of San Diego County. This award is given to a youth who has shown tremendous performance in the academics area as well as the community outside. The economic impact of the game on the community is unmistakable as it brings in thousands of dollars each year.
All in all a fun event, Bridgepoint Holiday Bowl tickets will give you a chance to enjoy the festive atmosphere at the stadium as well as top-notch football. This can turn out to be a great adrenaline pumping adventure for your entire gang of family and friends!
