Based in the city of Augsburg, Bavaria, FC Augsburg came into existence back in 1907 by the name of Fußball-Klub Alemania Augsburg. The team was later renamed to BC Augsburg in 1921 and it kept that name up until 1969. It was in 1969 when the team took its current name and form of FC Augsburg. Following its formation in 1969, FC Augsburg kept on trying to make it to the Bundesliga but couldn't do so and instead they kept on playing as the members of tier two and three leagues like 2nd Bundesliga, Regionalliga and Fussball Bayernliga.
Even around the time of the team's formation, Augsburg had a strong football following and support, but still the newly formed franchise had to struggle for support and success in the town. Even though the team's overall performance saw a bit of betterment in the following season, but that still wasn't enough to sell more than three hundred FC Augsburg tickets per game throughout the season. This made the team's financial conditions extremely tight and they found it hard to keep their top players. In their 1971-72 season the team struggled yet again but the season following that saw a huge improvement as the Augsburg went on to win the league championship. That year, for the final of Bayernliga, the team attracted more than 15,000 fans that saw Augsburg take home the Bayernliga championship.
After F.C Augsburg started playing in Regionalliga, it turned out to be an instant success as it managed to fetch more than 22,000 fans on average for most of the home games. Later on as the FCA went on to face TSV 1860 at the Olympic Stadium, the team managed to attract more than 80,000 fans to the stadium, and that was the very match that became the starting point for the bitter rivalry between the two that still remains to date. By the end of the very same season, F.C Augsburg turned out to be the league champions of that year, which sparked increased amount of fandom in the city.
After a string of successes, the team saw its first share of set back with relegations that started off in 1973. However from 1983 to 1994, the team tried to regain back its status by playing for eleven more seasons in the Bayernliga. Even though FCA was one of the top teams in the league, they still couldn't manage to get a hold of another league championship. From 1994 to 2000, the team started playing in the Regionalliga and for four seasons they remained a mediocre team in the league. Later on, the team suffered a major financial crisis, and it was brought back to its feet with the financial help from Walther Seinsch, who became the new chairman of the team. The team made its forceful comeback in the league in third division and currently the team finally plays in Bundesliga. And as their current season games are about to kick off, it's about time to be getting FC Augsburg tickets if you are a fan of the franchise.
