A Masterpiece

Those who have watched Mean Girls would agree that this musical is a true work of art. So, who is behind this awe-inspiring spectacle? Well, it is a collective effort of three of the insanely talented Tony nominated individuals, Jeff Richmond who composed the score of the show, Neil Benjamin who wrote the lyrics and Tina Fey who penned down the book. This is the first time these three creative geniuses are working together but, however, Richmond and Fey have previously worked on numerous projects including, '30 Rock,' 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' and 'Baby Mama.'

What is it Based On?

Mean Girls is based on the 2004 film of the same name which was produced and directed by Lorne Michaels and Mark Waters respectively. The flick starred Lindsay Lohan as Cady Heron, Rachel McAdams as Regina George, Lacey Chabert as Gretchen Wieners and Amanda Seyfried as Karen Smith. It became a huge hit, winning multiple accolades and was also received well by the critics.

What is it About?

The tale of Mean Girls revolves around Cady Heron who enrolls in North Shore High School in Chicago and soon befriends Damian and Janis. When The Plastics spots Hero, Janis advises her to become their 'friend' in order to end the Regina George's reign who is also known as Queen Bee. She does so and along the way, Heron loses herself, her friends and her crush, all for the chance to become popular. When Regina's reign ends, she puts out the burn book which brings down Heron and she must mend her broken relationships with Aaron, Janis and even Regina.

Making its Debut

Mean Girls made its debut at the National Theatre in Washington in 2017 and featured Erika Henningsen as Cady Heron and Taylor Louderman as Regina George. The show was a success and even won a Helen Hayes Award for, 'Outstanding Visiting Production.' A year later in April, the show opened on Broadway at the August Wilson Theatre. Directed by Casey Nicholaw, the show earned rave reviews from the critics and went on to garner twelve nominations for the Tony Award.

National Tour

Mean Girls is now currently trekking through the United States. It is scheduled to run for four performances in New York before the show gets staged in cities including Chicago, Boston, Durham, Tampa, Orlando and New Orleans.
