It is basically a sci-fi sitcom that tells about the adventures of a boy named Phillip J Fry who works as a pizza delivery guy in 20^th century New York City. Some other characters in the sitcom are Turanga Leela (the one eyed Planet Express ship captain), Bender Bending Rodriguez (the ill-tempered cigar-smoking robot), Dr. John (lobster like alien) and Amy Wong (the very rick and spoiled intern at Planet Express). This program won Emmy Awards in categories of Outstanding Animated Program and Outstanding Voice-Over Performance. The show also won four Annie Awards for Best Home Entertainment Production. For its animation Futurama won two Writers Guild of America Awards.

This show was the brainchild of comedian/actors Cole Stratton, David Owen and Janet Varney.
