Tamar is the youngest sister of Toni Braxton, who is an R&B singing star. Tamar got her first break in music in 1992. She was the founding member of the group named, "The Braxtons."Tamar formed the R&B group with her sisters Trina, Toni, Traci and Towanda. The five-member sibling group released the single Good Life in 1990. The single reached the Billboard charts at number seventy nine.

Traci and Tony moved on shortly afterwards. The Braxtons, now consisting of three sisters, then released "So Many Ways" via Atlantic Records in 1996. Presently, she is one of the hosts on the talk show "The Real." She accompanies the hosts Tamera Mowry, Loni Love, Adrienne Bailon and Jeannie Mai on the show. The show premiered in July 2013 and was aired on seven different stations across the United States which were owned by Fox.
