Born as Tijs Michiel Verwest in Breda, Netherlands, Tiesto developed love for music at the age of twelve. By fourteen, he was playing at school parties as a professional DJ. For several years, he remained a resident DJ in various Netherlands based clubs and made many people dance to his remixes of Madonna and other artists.

Much of Tiesto's earlier stint with recording industry was spent in shifting labels. It started out in 1994 when he released some material on Noculan Records' sub-labels Chemo and Coolman. He initially played under the pseudonym of Da Joker and DJ Limited and later signed to Basic Beat records, Lightning Records and DJ Yves before launching Black Hole Recordings in 1997, a joint venture of him and Arny Bink.

Under Black Hole Recordings, Tiesto released both his own records and the ones made by other electronica visionaries. He churned out gold, first with Magik and In Search of Sunrise CD series, and then with Gouryella. While these were created in collaboration with Arny Bink and Ferry Corsten respectively; listeners get a solo dose of Tiesto in the form of 2001 release In My Memory. His remix of Delerium's Silence featuring Sarah McLachlan earned him mainstream popularity and he soon became one of the first DJ's who started attracting large crowd during his solo shows.

2004 was the year when Tiesto went International in the true sense of the word. His second album, Just Be, became huge hit but it was nothing when compared to his ultimate live performance. Putting it humorously, Tiesto became the first ever Olympic DJ of the world as he was invited to perform at the Summer Olympics opening ceremony in Athens, Greece. His act, Parade of the Athletes, made him a household name and he also released its mix compilation later that year.

Along with albums, Tiesto's special work and RJ act also made headlines. At one hand, his album Elements of Life repeated the success of his previous works then on the other hand; his song about HIV/AIDS awareness, Dance4Life was highly appreciated. Also, his radio show Tiesto's Club Life made all his fans stick to Radio 538 for hours and hours. Quite recently, his Elements of Life: Remixed and another album Kaleidoscope also reassured Tiesto's infallible stature in the world of music.
