Symphony Orchestras attract a large number of patrons of classical music wherever one such performance is held. Lansing Symphony Orchestra is one of those few orchestras that have managed to excel and become one of the leading symphony orchestras in the country. Lansing Symphony Band was formed back in 1929 and over the course of history it has become one of the cultural gems of the state of Michigan. Through its on stage and off stage activities, Lansing Symphony has earned its place as the hub of musical excellence within the state. Lansing Symphony Orchestra features dedicated members of the staff as well as extremely professional musicians and a board that looks at taking Lansing Symphony to the new heights of success. Apart from staging top of the line musical performances, Lansing Symphony Orchestra also carries out educational programs. With both of these endeavors, Lansing Symphony inspires more than 20,000 people every year. Each season, LSO brings finest pieces out of its repertoire which depict the musical proficiency of the entire company as a unit. LSO has an exciting lineup of events coming your way this year as well. So buckle up and be a part of the ride with Lansing Symphony Band tickets.
Timothy Muffitt is the current Music Director of the Lansing Symphony. He filled in for the position back in 2006, hence 2013-2014 season will mark his eighth year as Lansing Symphony's Music Director. Prior to Muffitt, Gustav Meier served as the Music Director of the Symphony Orchestra for 27 seasons. Izler Solomon was the first Music Director and the founder of the Lansing Symphony.
Throughout its season, Lansing Symphony Orchestra presents its audience with diverse orchestral programs. Its upcoming 2013-2014 will mark LSO's 84th overall season in which the Orchestra will be presenting a wide range of musical routines. The season will have a number of top notch guest musicians and artists performing some of the renowned works in LSO's MasterWorks Series. On the other hand, LSO also has a lot in store to indulge new audiences with its Pops Series that features pop music and other forms of exciting programs. LSO's MasterWorks Series and Pops Series concerts are performed at the Wharton Center that is located within the Michigan State University. Over the course of its season, people will also get to see small ensembles performing live in closed and intimate environments through LSO's Chamber Series. Chamber Series concerts take place at the Plymouth Congregational Church. Lansing Symphony Jazz Band also brings some of the jazz classics to life while also performing some contemporary pieces along the way. LSO stages its full band concerts at Dart Auditorium located on the campus of Lansing Community College.
Apart from staging live orchestral programming, Lansing Symphony Orchestra also gives back to the community in the form of its educational programs. With its programs, LSO aims at educating the community by teaching it the cultural value of orchestral music. Each season, Lansing Symphony Orchestra stages programs that are targeted towards youth in the form of school performances, concerts for younger audiences and rehearsing openly. With its Holiday Pops, LSO also offers an opportunity to the younger musicians to perform along with the orchestra.
Each year, as a part of its educational effort, LSO stages the Lansing Symphony Youth Competition. The Youth Competition has been a part of Lansing for more than six decades now. Many of the musicians, who won the competition, are now enjoying successful career as professional musicians. The competition offers a competitive setting to young musicians which, in result, encourages them to hone their skills. The winner of the competition gets a chance to perform live at the Young People's Concerts along with the Lansing Symphony Orchestra, in addition to a trophy and a cash reward.
