In the history of comedy, there a few genres that have popped up and stuck with audiences. One of these is ethnic comedy, made popular by comics who grew up with immigrant parents. The other is observational comedy, made popular by comics who grew up in inner cities of the US. When you combine the two, you get a hilarious combination of ethnic comedy with observational humor. This combination is perfectly showcased by the very funny Sebastian Maniscalco.

Maniscalco was born in Arlington Heights, Chicago, Illinois to Italian immigrant parents. He grew up in the city but as soon as he realized he had the potential to become a comedy star, he packed up and left for Los Angeles. Sebastian spent the early 2000s frequenting various comedy hangouts around the city. He would perform wherever he found a stage including bars, restaurants and small gatherings. At the same time, he paid his bills by working as a waiter in the local Four Seasons hotel. He would spend a number of years crafting his skill before he got his big break in 2007.

In 2007, Sebastian was approached by Comedy Central to record a one hour comedy special and DVD for them. This show was titled “Sebastian Live” and was accompanied by a 20-city national tour. While this was his first brush with fame, Sebastian didn't know that things were about to get even better for him. The same year, popular actor/producer Vince Vaughn was on the lookout for ethnic comedians for an upcoming documentary film he was producing. Luckily for Sebastian, he was one of the four comics chosen for this project.

Released in 2008, this film was titled “Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights - Hollywood to the Heartland”. It also premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. The film was emceed by Vince Vaughn himself and followed him and his four hand-picked comedians as they toured 30 US cities. It recorded their shows as well as their off-stage antics. It also had all the comedians doing improvisational sketches with specials guests and featured interviews with a number of well-known comedians. The film was very well received critically and truly put Sebastian on the map.

Once Sebastian got a taste of success on the screen, his star just kept growing. In the years since, he has appeared on almost all major television shows including The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Comedy Central Presents, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Jay Leno Show and Conan. He performed sets on these shows as a guest comedian and was very well received on all of them. This led to him being offered his first television special with Showtime in 2012.

“What's Wrong with you People” was Sebastian's first TV movie for Showtime. It featured almost an hour and half of his comedy and this is where the world got introduced to the musings of this comic. The show was so successful that Showtime followed it up with another special titled “Aren't you Embarrassed”. The special was released in 2014 and was followed by wide critical acclaim for the comedian.

Sebastian's comedy hits home with everyone because he talks about everyday things. From screaming about the uselessness of selfies to commenting on the need to leave reviews for a restaurant visit online, he discusses them all. These are the topics he touches and that's why everyone who is at his show can relate to what he's saying. His slow delivery style reels audiences in and the punch line leaves them kneeling over with laughter.

Sebastian Maniscalco Extends You Bother Me Tour

Due to the overwhelming response to his "You Bother Me Tour" in 2019, Sebastian Maniscalco has expanded the outing into 2020 with twenty new shows. On his Facebook, the stand-up comedian and actor said “I’ve heard you, I’m coming,” assuring his fans that more gigs are in store.

The 2020 run kick starts with a performance at the Golden State Theatre in Monterey, California on January 11. It includes two nights at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut as well as two nights at the Colosseum at Caesars Windsor in Windsor, Ontario.
