Ever since 1995, the manager of the band remains Stewart Young; whereas the current line-up of the Scorpions includes five band members, such as the lead vocalist Klaus Meine, backing vocalists and lead and rhythm guitarists Matthias Jabs and Rudolf Schenker, bassist and backing vocalist Pawel Maciwoda, and drummer, percussionist, and baking vocalist James Kottak. The band was launched by Rudolf Schenker in 1965 and included beat influences. Schenker, being a rhythm guitarist, did the vocals himself at first. The band's debut album Lonesome Crow released in 1972, when other band members, such as the bassist Heimberg and drummer Wolfgang Dziony had joined the group. Together, the group then hit the road for a tour in support of their debut album, on which they opened for an upcoming British band called UFO. By the time the tour was about to end, the band members of UFO offered Michael Schenker to join their band as the lead guitarist. Since Michael soon accepted the offer, abandoning his own band, the Scorpions invited Uli Roth, a friend of the Schenker brothers, to complete the Lonesome Crow tour.

Michael Schenker's departure led to the breaking up of the band. In 1973, Uli Roth was asked to join the band as a lead guitarist. Roth declined the offer, preferring to stay with his own band ? Dawn Road. Rudolf Schenker, upon deciding to work with Roth and not resurrecting the Scorpions previous lineup, attended some of Dawn Road's rehearsals, after which he joined the band. Insisted by Roth and the bassist Francis Buchholz of Dawn Road, Schenker then called Klaus Meine to join the band as well. When Meine also joined Dawn Road, the band changed its name to Scorpions, as it was renowned in the German hard rock music scene and an album had been released under that name as well.In 1974, with the all-new lineup, the Scorpions released the album Fly to the Rainbow, which turned out to be more successful than their debut album. From there onwards, the Scorpions' luck started to shine and they continued to release hit after hit. The band was at the height of its fame when MTV started to incorporate harder rock music into their daily rotation. Their 1984's video of 'Rock You Like a Hurricane' became a huge success on MTV that helped in making the song a Top 25 pop hit in the United States of America.
