Paul Albert Anka was born on July 30, 1941, in Ottawa, Ontario. He is a Canadian-American singer, actor and songwriter, who became an American citizen in 1990.

Early Days:
Paul Anka's parents ran a restaurant. They forefathers were Lebanese Christians. Anka sang with the St. Elijah Syrian Antiochian Orthodox Church choir, and was guided under by Frederick Karam. Anka also learned to play the piano with Winnifred Rees.

Personal life:
Anka married Anne De Zogheb, who is a Lebanese diplomat's daughter. This marriage lasted from February 16, 1963, to September 28, 2000, and they had 5 daughters together. He met her in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1962. She stopped modeling after they got married.

Career:
Anka first became well known as a teen star in the late 1950s and 1960s, with hits compositions such as "Lonely Boy, "Diana," " and "Put Your Head on My Shoulder." He wrote popular music like the theme for ?The Tonight Show', "She's A Lady", and the Frank Sinatra's signature song, "My Way" [English Lyrics].Anka recorded "I Confess," when he was 14. In 1957, he auditioned for Don Costa at ABC, and sang a lovestruck verse his former babysitter. It was the song, "Diana", which brought Anka instant recognition. It went to number one on the charts. Historically, "Diana" is one of the top selling 45s.Anka followed Diana with 4 songs that were Top 20 hits in 1958. At 17, he emerged as one of the world's biggest teen idols. Anka toured Britain, and went to Australia with Buddy Holly.

Anka's talent exceeded his singing, as he also wrote Buddy Holly's major hit, "It Doesn't Matter Anymore." It was re-created 1962 from a song Anka had written earlier, "Toot Sweet." He went back to his home town to purchase a part of the Ottawa Senators hockey team. His album, Rock Swings, which had big-band arrangements of contemporary standards, in 2005, paved a mainstream comeback. He was awarded a star on Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto.

Recognition:
Paul Anka was chosen for the Canadian Music Hall of Fame [1980]. He also has a star at the 6840 Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Government of France has also honored him with the title "Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Letters" [1991]. In October of 1995, he appeared in Treehouse of Horror VI on The Simpsons.
