You can catch them at the Taft Theater in Cincinnati, Adler Theater in Davenport or DECC Auditorium in Duluth. They are also scheduled to perform at Family Arena in Saint Charles and Capital Convention Center in Springfield.
Established in 1985, the band was created by schoolmates, George Perdikis and Peter Furler. At the time of the group's formation, the two were only teenagers. They added two more young artists, John James and Sean Taylor to complete the band. Initially the group was named The News; however it was soon changed to Newsboys in order to avoid conflict with the popular American ensemble, Huey Lewis and the News.
After two years, the Newsboys were able to sign on with Refuge Communications in 1987 and were seen releasing their debut album, Read All about It, in the following year. The record was re-released in 1993 by Star Song and presented John James on lead vocals, Sean Taylor playing bass, Peter Furler on drums and Phil Yates playing the guitar. George Perdikis played guitars and drums for the song "He's Coming Back". Read All about It provided their fans with hits such as "I Got Your Number", "Listen for the Shout", "Lighthouse" and "It's Joy".
During the nineties, the Christian group was approached by Star Song Communications with whom they released two studio albums namely Hell is for Whimps in 1990 and Boys Will Be Boyz in 1991.
Not Ashamed was able to garner massive attention and Newsboys became a well known group in the Christian music scene. A majority of the songs on the album were produced and written by the talented Steve Taylor, who started a partnership with the group. The record was awarded three out of five stars by Jesus Freak Hideout and eight out of ten stars by Cross Rhythms.
Over the years, Newsboys has released sixteen studio releases and embarked on countless headlining and supporting tours. Their debut tour took place back in 1993 when the group toured to support the album Not Ashamed. The band's most recent tour was the God's Not Dead Tour that initiated in February 2013 and ended in May 2013. The band is expected to embark on the Restart Tour that will be inaugurated to support their most recent studio release of the same name.
Since the group's inception, Newsboys has undergone numerous member lineup changes. The current lineup consists of Duncan Phillips on percussion and drums, Jody Davis playing lead guitar, Jeff Frankenstein playing keys and Michael Tait, the lead vocalist. Due to their contributions to Christian music, Newsboys has received nominations for four Grammy Awards including the award for Best Rock/Gospel Album. They have won five Dove Awards out of twenty seven nominations, a Billboard Music Video Award, two International Angel and Nashville Music Awards and a SESAC Award.
