Neeme Jarvi is a classical music conductor who has become an internationally recognized powerhouse. Talented, innovative and creative, Jarvi is applauded not only for his ingenuity in performances, but also for making every recital a masterpiece in its own right. Jarvi's career in the industry began at an early stage and he was able to hone his skills under the tutelage of Nikolai Rabinovich and Yevgeny Mravinsky. Jarvi's career is legendary, not just in the works that he has performed, but in his ability to make the audience want to experience more. And therein lays his legacy.
Neeme Jarvi hails from Estonia, and much of his musical knowledge has been influenced by the culture he grew up in. Leningrad provided an environment for him to develop his style and passion for the art, and learn music. Trained in the USSR stream of classical music, Jarvi was able to internalize the teachings and create his own personal style. Under the guidance of Mravinsky and Rabinovich, Jarvi developed a liking for the more famous and regularly performed compositions and also developed an ear for lesser known pieces. Today, he is most famous for promoting Estonian music and giving it a global audience.
Jarvi made a mark in the classical music industry in Estonia in the 60s. He became the Director of the Radio and Television Orchestra in Estonia in 1963. 1976 saw him join the Estonian State Symphony Orchestra as the Chief Conductor and the Artistic Director. The 1980's marked his big breakthrough, as Jarvi became the Principal Conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony in Sweden. 1982 gave him charge of the Gothenburg Symphony, and simultaneously, he also took up the position of Principal Conductor at the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Currently, he holds the record of being Principal Conductor at the Gothenburg Symphony for twenty two years.
Jarvi has been fortunate to have worked with some of the most established houses, including the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony and the Philadelphia Orchestra. He also won honorary recognitions from Japan Philharmonic and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. The nineties saw him become Music Director for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the 2000's saw him advance from there to the New Jersey Symphony, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and Residentie Orchestra of the Hague. Neeme Jarvi's career is a celebration of the musical genius that he is and the uniqueness that he brings to his compositions. He has performed all over the world, and in the process, he has made himself one of the most wanted and treasured conductors and classical music experts around.
Jarvi has revolutionized the classical music genre by making it more approachable and more enjoyable. He re-made the American orchestral tradition by introducing Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian and East European music to the center stage. Famous for his little nuances during his performances, such as his playful winks, stage antics and his ability to instantly make a connection with the audience, Jarvi is a treat to watch and listen to. To date, he has performed with some of the biggest names such as, Eduard Tubin, Alexander Ostrovsky and Arvo Part.
A conductor who has become an international sensation, Neeme Jarvi is a force to be reckoned with. His direction has changed the course of many orchestra houses. Reinventing famous music pieces, and bringing underappreciated compositions into the spotlight, Jarvi has remodeled the institute of classical music. He is all set to go across North America for a string of concerts this season. To watch him live, purchase Neeme Jarvi tickets today.
