Keyshia Cole was born on October 15, 1981. She is an American R&B singer-songwriter. Keyshia Cole is well known for her soulful vocals, and recently, she was lauded for her platinum selling debut album The Way It Is [2005]. Her next expected release will be in 2007, which will be called ?Just Like You'.

Early years:
Keyshia Cole is originally from Oakland, California, where she grew up as a foster child. At an early age, Keyshia turned to prostitution because of poverty. Her brother, Sean Cole, and Tupac Shakur were good friends. Tupac was like an elder brother to Keyshia. Her brother, Sean raps under the alias Nutt-So. He had made several songs with Shakur. Keyshia's first recorded with MC Hammer when she was twelve.Keyshia Cole's grandmother was the one who inspired her to further pursue her career. At 16, she left the Bay Area, and moved to Los Angeles. Soon after that, A&M Records president Ron Fair recommended her to chairman Jimmy Iovine. She signed with A & R rep Fair in December 2002. She began recording her debut album shortly after that, and made her first solo appearance on the track Never.

The Way It Is [2005]
This release in 2005 was under Interscope/A&M Records, and it got a positive reception from music critics. It started at number-six on the U.S. Billboard 200 albums charts, and quickly received platinum certification.She also released the mixtape Team Invasion Presents Keyshia Cole. This was mixed by DJ Green Lantern. Cole released her second album to iTunes Music Stores on November 22, 2005, which was her own version of the holiday classic, Silent Night. By 2006, the 4th single, Love, was a bigger success, and reached #3 on the R&B chart and #19 on the Billboard Hot 100. This hit drove the album to Platinum certification. In the video, actor Tyrese Gibson featured. IN order to boost her album, Cole starred in her very own six-episode reality show. This was called Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is. It was promoted with rapper DMX's reality show too.

Just Like You [2007]
Cole is done with working on her second album, Just Like You. The Producers of this album include Scott Storch, Bryan Michael Cox, Kanye West, & Greg Curtis. It is scheduled for release this September 25, 2007.

The first single of this album is Let It Go . It features Missy Elliott and Lil Kim. Let it Go has become a huge success for Cole, and has become her 5th top 10 R&B hit, and also her second biggest hit on the Hot 100, peaking at #19.

To prepare for the release of the album, BET will air a second season of Cole's reality show Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is. This will be held before the album's release. The show will focus on Cole recording her second album, her sister Neffe, as well as her mother's recent release from jail. Keyshia Cole will also be making an appearance in an MTV film in 2007 titled, which will be called How She Moves.
