Fuel's origins can be traced back to 1989 when it was formed in Brownsville, Tennessee by drummer Jody Abbot and songwriter Carl Bell. Guitarist Scallions became part of the band after bassist Jeff Abercrombie and Bell watched him performing in a Jackson bar in 1993. The very same year Erik Avakian, a vocalist and keyboardist, joined the group, which relocated to Harrisburg in 1994 and began performing at the local nightclubs and bars of Pennsylvania. Their earliest EP titled Porcelain came out in 1996 and had a small-scale successful sale locally, while alongside hitting producing a smalltime radio hit called Shimmer. The EP's popularity gained attention from 550 imprint of Sony, which offered to release the group's second EP Hazleton in the next year.
Fuel signed with Epic records after which it went to Longview Farm studios based in Massachusetts with Steven Haigler as their producer and Jonathan Mover as their new drummer, since they were having issues with Abbott. The group released its first full-length album in 1998 called Sunburn, which included the song Shimmer from their previous EP and took up a spot on Top 40 hits. Other singles such as Sunburn, Jesus or a Gun, and Bittersweet also gained some popularity and got some airplay. The tracks Sunburn and Shimmer were later featured on the band's charitable studio offering called Live in the XLounge. The former song was played in the film Scream 3, while the group also contributed to the 1998 film Godzilla by giving their non-LP song called WalktheSky.
Fuel's next album came out after more than a decade, in 2000 called Something Like Human, and produced a Top 40 hit with the single Hemorrhage (In My Hands) which, reached the thirtieth place on Billboard Hot 100 charts. The album itself climbed up to the seventeenth place on Billboard 200 and attained the status of certified double platinum by September 2001.
Their third album titled Natural Selection was released in 2003 and debuted on the fifteenth place on US Billboard charts. It produced the hit single Fall on Me that reached number fifty-two on US Billboard Hot 100. Though the single was a success, the album did not sell well unable to even achieve the gold status. However, album did receive a nomination for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Engineered Album.
Fuel released it fourth album Angels & Devils in 2007 and issued its first single Wasted Time on rock radio as well as on internet downloads, due to which the song reached number twenty-four on HotMainstream Rock Tracks by Billboard. The album appeared at the forty-second place on Billboard 200 and sold fifteen thousand copies in the initial week of release. Around the same time the band was invited to play at The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. The band has since taken several tours and road trips has established itself as a great live performing rock act so make it quick and grab Fuel tickets for their next show.
