Vince Clarke only stayed with the band to the release of their 1981 debut album whereas Alan Wilder remained with the band from 1982 to 1995. Currently the band is represented by the trio of Gahan, Gore, and Fletcher. Depeche Mode has become one of the most popular and proclaimed bands across entire Europe. Another unique dimension associated with the band is that they are one of the longest lived and influential bands of the revolutionary new wave era. The songs have reached millions of music lovers and have also reached the top of UK and US charts. Their success started immediately after the release of their first single "Dreaming of Me". The song was released in the February 1981 and reached 57th ranking in the UK charts. The band was taken completely by surprise by this considerable change of fate. In fact they never ever comprehended the fact they would be amongst the top 100 best songs for that particular year. The band had an exceptional beginning.

Their second single "New Life" also came across a similar kind of successful outcome. This particular single reached number 11 among the UK charts the following year.
