BLACKstreet is name of on of the famous American R&B group, which had been formed in the year of 1992 by Teddy Riley, who had been the inventor of New Jack Swing known for his work as a member of Guy.
The band is comprised of the members like: Teddy Riley, Eric Williams, Mark Middleton, and J-Stylz. The original members of BLACKstreet were Joseph Stonestreet, Levi Little, Dave Hollister, Terrell Phillips, and Chauncey Hannibal.
They had not attained any great height of success, with their debut album, entitled BLACKstreet. The singles Booti Call and Before I Let You Go, had reached at a rank in the Top 40 hits.
The next album titled Another Level had proved to be a breakthrough success, especially due to the top single No Diggity (with Dr. Dre), which had reached at the #1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 1996. It had also won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals, along with the Top 40 hit Don't Leave Me.
Another Level had been able to get the record of being the four times platinum in the United States and had reached at #3 on the Billboard chart. The single No Diggity has been ranked at #91 on Rolling Stone and MTV: 100 Greatest Pop Songs, while BLACKstreet comes in at #214 of the Top 500 Pop Artists of the Past 25 Years.
BLACKstreet has also formed collaboration with Jay-Z on his single The City is mine. The debut single from their third album, Girlfriend/Boyfriend, had been collaboration with Janet Jackson, and it had featured Ja Rule and Eve -- BLACKstreet finally had a top ten album with Finally.
The group had faced many problems, due to changes in the members, which had result in the relative failure it and BLACKstreet had seen a break up. There were many rumors of legal action and a preemptive countersuit, despite all that the group had reunited and released Level II in 2003.
The group had been a part of the New Jack Reunion Tour in the year of 2006. the members were Teddy Riley, Mark Middleton, Eric Williams, and new member J-Stylz who had replaced Chauncey Hannibal who left the group to sign with Busta Rhymes label Flipmode Records as a solo artist.
The group has released a new album in 2008. BLACKstreet had been the debut album by American R&B group BLACKstreet. Released in 1994, it had success with Booticall, U Blow My Mind and Make U Wet. The single Before I Let You Go peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100.
There a verses of rap between BLACKstreet's sung verses, which were performed by Dre, Teddy Riley and Queen Pen, and the backing vocals from Shaquana Elam.
Despite that some of Queen Pen's lyrics are censored, there are no dirty versions of the song. It is quite contrary to popular belief; Matthew Santos did not perform the song's hook.
The song's hook is an altered sample from the beginning of Grandma's Hands by R&B hit maker Bill Withers. A remix of the song was done as a cover to Michael Jackson's Billie Jean. The song had also been sampled in 2001 by German singer Sarah Connor.
