A singer and songwriter from Los Angeles, she is known to dabble in various genres, ranging from electronic and trip hop to R&B. Banks has gone on to tour extensively since her debut. She has played live next to bands such as The Weeknd. She received a nomination at the BBC's Sound of 2014 Awards and won the MTV Brand New Nominee Award in 2014. FoxWeekly called her their Artist to Watch.

Banks has come a long way from her childhood in Orange County. She began writing music at the age of fifteen and then learnt how to play the piano. Music helped her cope with her parents' divorce and became an outlet for her feelings of loneliness and helplessness.

Banks rose to fame via SoundCloud, before she was signed onto a record label. The R&B and electronic artist was helped along the way by Lily Collins, a close friend, who passed on Banks' music to music industry executives. As a result of her efforts, Banks signed with the label Good Years and released her first song in 2013.

Titled Before I Ever Met You, it rose from a SoundCloud post to being played by DJ Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1. Soon after, Banks released the EP Fall, via IAMSOUND and Good Years. The EP was praised by critics, with Billboard magazine calling her a 'magnetic writer with songs to obsess over'.

Later in 2013, the artist released a second EP, titled London. This was released by Good Years and Harvest Records. It received positive reviews from critics and was much loved by her fans. One of the EP's songs, Waiting Game, was featured in a Victoria's Secret commercial. She went on to bag award nominations from BBC and MTV, in the Sound of the Year and Brand New Nominee categories. She was also ranked as one of Shazam's 2014 Acts to Watch and iTunes New Artists for 2014. Vogue honored her with an Artist of the Week feature, praising her music as having the quality to 'perfectly capture a feeling of being lost and powerless in the world'.

Shazam, iTunes and Vogue were hardly the only ones to praise Banks. Many more newspapers, magazines and media outlets praised her music, with Spin magazine going so far as to call her second EP an 'Album You Gotta Hear in 2014'. She was also one of the Artists Under the Spotify Spotlight for 2014. Banks was also praised by The Huffington Post, Fuse and The Boston Globe, amongst other publications.

As 2013 came to an end, Banks opened for The Weeknd's tour, which included dates in the US and UK. Following this tour, she kicked off her own tour in March 2014, in the UK.
