Jarreau's talents were spotted by none other than Warner Bros. Records and the recording contract brought about Al's debut album titled We Got By. The critical reception of the album was amazing not only in Al's homeland but also across the continent where he became the winner of a German Grammy. He was awarded another German Grammy for his next album, Glow.

1977 was a breakthrough year for Al as his live double album received a Grammy and also took him to a very successful live tour. And Al was not stopping just there. His next album was also highly successful, Grammy winning one. More albums came coming out, bringing him national and international awards and accolades; establishing his position as an international superstar who knew how to take over a stage and the hearts of his listeners.

There was no stopping Al; he kept his thousands of loyal listeners sated with fresh music and his trademark amazing live performances. Extensive touring, recording and releases continued bringing Al much-deserved fame and accolades. He slid into the third decade of his career doing the same but for his new album, Heaven and Earth, he took a different sound. His career took exciting changes in 90s when he took a break from touring and tried his acting talents on Broadway. He also made several guest appearances in numerous shows. 1999 saw Jarreau teaming up with symphony orchestras and the performances he gave through the U.S. and in Europe witnessed him in a new, more amazing form of jazz music with orchestra.

2000 onwards was another adventurous phase for this virtuoso singer. He worked on several albums of which some were compilations of his best ever songs and one was also a Christmas special album. He also teamed with big names of the music industry to work on his recordings.
