Headquartered in the United States of America, The Oak Ridge Boys is a country and gospel group that was originally based in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA, and was founded as the Oak Ridge Quartet in 1945. The original line-up of the band included Wally Fowler, Curly Kinsey, Johnny New, and Lon Deacon Freeman. The group gained popularity during the '50s and changed its name to The Oak Ridge Boys in the '60s and is often referred to as the Oak's in short. The group started as a gospel-oriented one, which remained till the mid '70s, when the image of The Oak's was altered, and the band focused more country and pop music, in order to modernize its music a bit.
