Details of Petco Park and the Ticket Luck value
Home to Major League Baseball's San Diego Padres, Petco Park is located at the 100 Park Blvd, San Diego, California, and has the capacity to withhold the crowd of 42,445 with in its premises. Petco Park broke ground during the summers of 2000 as the part of the revitalization project that was planed to revive San Diego's downtown. Petco Park opened its doors for the audiences on April 08, 2004, however it was scheduled to open in 2002, but then it was delayed due to some legal and political disagreements. As a matter of fact, that wasn't the only reason why the opening was delayed; a 100-year old Western Metal Supply Co. building that came in the way of the construction also came out to be some what of a hurdle in the way of Petco Park. Due to its historic significance the building was prevented from being demolished and further more the building was accumulated with in the design of the Petco Field and hence Petco Park also set a good example of adaptive reuse upon its completion. These unanticipated delays highly effected San Diego Padres' 2002 and 2003 seasons, which they ultimately had to play at the Qualcomm Stadium.
Upon its completion, the stadium was named Petco Park, as the San Diego based pet food retailer and supplier Petco bought the naming rights of the ballpark. It was on March 11, 2004 when Petco Field hosted its first ever baseball game, which was not a major league game but was a NCAA invitational tournament that was organized by the San Diego State University. The match was held between Houston Cougars and San Diego Aztecs, out of which, Aztecs came out victorious. Longest game in the history of Petco Park was played on April 17, 2008 between Rockies and Padres. The game lasted for 22 innings and ended up with the defeat of Padres.
Since February 2007, Petco Park has also been playing host for IRB's USA Sevens rugby events. Prior to that, USA Sevens was hosted at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, CA. The finals and semi finals of the first World Baseball Classic held in 2006 was held at the Petco Park on March 18 and 20 correspondingly.
Petco Park doesn't only hosts sporting events, but it has also hosted some of the historical live music concerts including a live concert by Rolling Stones that was held on November 11, 2005 and was also the first ever concert held at the ballpark. Later on, during her Sticky and Sweet Tour, Madonna also performed live in San Diego after 23 years, at the Petco Park on November 4, 2008.
Upcoming Padres' games at the ballpark include their match against Pittsburgh Pirates on April 24, April 25, and April 26, followed by another match against Colorado Rockies on May 04, 2009. Padres will be facing Cincinnati Reds on May 15, May 16 and May 17, 2009 apart from their matches against Cubs, Phillies, Diamondbacks, Giants and Astros etc. this season.
