Sports competitions all over the world attract millions of fans and spectators every year. All the mainstream sports like football, soccer and hockey have their own mini competitions and all of them always end in a World Cup or Playoffs. The object of these competitions is to determine the one true champion of the game for the year or number of years. National competitions like the NFL, NHL or EPL have championships on a yearly basis and the winners are crowned champions for the coming year. International competitions like the FIFA Soccer World Cup or the ICC Cricket World Cup take place every 4 years or so and determine a champions for the coming four years. In the barrage of these mainstream sports and their competitions, the smaller scale competitions and sports like skiing, sledging and bobsleigh cannot find a way to make it to the point where they get their own World Cup competitions. That is why these games are represented at the Olympic competitions and receive their subsequent champions at this event. The better known Summer Olympics fail to include sports that can only be played in winter conditions so the Winter Olympics are a way to reward the best in the winter sports.
