The Monster Jam series was inaugurated in 2000 as a television show and a touring event by the Feld Entertainment. Sanctioned under the banner of United States Hot Rod Association the Monster Jam is known to tour throughout the US. Recent expansions have allowed the touring show to hold events in Canada, Europe and South America as well. The show is known to be enjoyed by audiences of all ages, as the presentations provide Monster Jam fans with the opportunity to witness some of the fiercest machines on a dirt track. These events also provide the fans with the opportunity of meeting the drivers in person during the autograph sessions after each show’s closing.
 
The Monster Jam presents two diverse range of competitions for audiences to enjoy; Freestyle and Racing. Smaller competitions also present wheelie and donut face-offs in which different drivers try to score the most points. In the wheelie competition the aim of each driver is to hit a ramp that is uprooted while maintaining the truck’s perpendicular position in the air. In donuts the drivers try to spin their trucks for as long as they can. Apart from this traditional races offer the drivers to win the Championship title and cup by moving forward in each elimination race. Lastly the freestyle competition allows drivers to display and show off their talents by pulling off stunts and tricks to earn points. Each driver is award a thirty second bonus period apart from the ninety seconds to convince the three judges to give them the best score out of 10. The winning drivers from the racing competition and the freestyle showoff are awarded separate trophies. However, if the same driver wins both the categories, he is awarded the biggest trophy of the competition; the Double Down Trophy. The only driver to win this trophy for two consecutive years is Tom Meents, winning both titles in 2001 and 2002.
 
Last year’s winner of the racing competition was also Tom Meents, driving the Maximum Destruction truck while the freestyle competition’s win was achieved by Cam McQueen driving the Northern Nightmare.
