Les Violons Du Roy
Les Violons du Roy is a famous Chamber orchestra that is popular all over the world for its soothing live music. The group specializes in the vast repertoire of music for chamber orchestra, performed in the stylistic manner and great perfection.
With a core membership of fifteen players, the orchestra was founded in 1984 by music director Bernard Labadie. The ensemble got success by playing the works of the Baroque and Classical periods on modern instruments.
Les Violons du Roy takes a different approach to the music of 17th and early 18th centuries and creates such a great sound that provides the ultimate experience of live music.
The chamber orchestra Les Violons du Roy borrows its name from the renowned string orchestra of the court of the French kings. The material they produce is nothing short of Royal music as it is full of life and musical greatness.
Les Violons du Roy was founded by Bernard Labadie in 1985. It is a national chamber choir of professional singers recruited mainly in Quebec City, and also throughout Quebec and Canada. Currently residing in the Palais Montcalm, its Quebec City base, the orchestra is considered among the best of live performers in Canada in these times.
Les Violons du Roy is widely acclaimed for the exceptional energy, brilliance and vitality of its performances. Its performances of cantatas, oratorios and masses by Bach, Handel, Mozart and Haydn are widely acclaimed.
In recent seasons, the orchestra has begun to explore 19th and 20th century repertoire in more depth under the leadership of first guest conductor Jean-Marie Zeitouni, which has been welcomed by thunderous applause wherever they performed.
Besides being a front-liner of the musical scene in Quebec City, Les Violons du Roy has its fan base throughout Canada and United States. Its concerts and recordings are broadcast by Radio-Canada, CBC and NPR in the United States.
The orchestra also has an impressive live concert record as it has made several concert appearances in Germany, England, Austria, Belgium, Ecuador, Spain, France, Morocco, Mexico, Norway, and the Netherlands, besides its homeland and USA.
The most memorable among them are summer 2007 concert where Les Violons du Roy performed with US mezzo-soprano Vivica Genaux for concerts at Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Rheingau Festival in Germany.
It has also performed with La Chapelle de Quebec in Toronto, United States and an all-Vivaldi program in France. The choir has also appeared with Bernard Labadie in the concerts he conducts with US orchestras.
Till yet, Les Violons du Roy has made fifteen recordings that are hailed as fantastic both by critics and music lovers. The choir has earned various distinctions and awards at the national and international levels for their musical contributions.
It has won many Juno Awards for classical album of the year, for vocal or choral performances, for chamber performances and for its recording of Mozarts Requiem. Moreover, the critically-acclaimed work by them like Water Music and Vivica Genaux also maintained their supremacy in the musical scene of Europe.
