Ben Folds is a record producer, singer and songwriter belonging to North Carolina. He is known for being the founder and lead member of the band Ben Fold Five from 1995 to 2000. He was the band's pianist as well as the front man. After that, Ben Fold Five disbanded, reuniting again in 2011. During this time, Folds experimented as a solo artist, touring across the world. Ben Folds journey into the world of music started when he, as a bassist, formed Majosha the band along with his companion Millard Powers. The band managed to release many records locally. When the band broke up in the early 90s, Folds went on to form Pots and Pans with guitarist Britt Uzzell and bassist Evan Olson. However, they disbanded after only a little while. After that Folds landed a contract with Scott Siman, the music executive of Nashville. That made Folds move to Nashville, where he eventually ended up being a session musician.

Ben Folds moved back to North Carolina some years later and got together with Darren Jessee and Robert Sledge to form Ben Folds Five in1994. A year later, the trio came up with their debut self titled album. It was followed by the release of "Whatever and Ever Amen" in 1997. The album included several songs that made it to the charts. After that, the trio released their last album of the decade called "The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner." The album included the hit song Army.

Ben Folds Five's breakthrough song was Underground, which made it to the Top 40 list in the UK. This was followed by four more of their singles that made it to the Top 40 list. After a long struggle in the genre, the band temporarily broke up. When the band reunited in 2011, they released "The Sound of the Life of the Mind in 2012, followed by their tour. Apart from his career with the band, Ben Folds has had a successful solo career as well. By 2008, Folds had already released six LPs, which also included the Fear of Pop experimental project. It was released while the band was still together. The first release of Fold after the Five disbanded was "Rockin' the Suburbs" which came out in 2001. In the album, Folds focused a lot on the instruments and nearly played all of them. Prominent of them was the guitar.
