Andy was a born in Azua de Compos in the Dominican Republic. He was interested in music from an early age due to his well-known family, the Villalonas. The Villalona family had many connections in the show business and was quite popular in the Dominican society. Fernando Villalona even found reasonable success in the Latin music world.

With such a background, it did not take Andy long to showcase his talents as a singer. He started off by performing the 'Merenguero' genre of music, which is a high tempo dance based music style created in the Dominican Republic which uses a host of instruments to create a funky Latin sound. Since then Andy has released a total of nine studio albums. These albums have made him one of the most popular Dominican pop stars in the world while also putting him among the biggest Latin artists in U.S history. He has been nominated for the Latin Grammys and the Billboard Awards several times and has also won three Billboard Awards to date. He set up his own music label prior to the release of his third album, "Ironía," and the move paid off as the album made it to the top of the Billboard's Top Tropical Albums charts in 2005 and 2006.
