Three Billy Goats Gruff is a Norwegian fairytale that dates back to over 150 years. The story has been popular not just in Norway but also across the globe and in most schools around the world this story is a part of the curriculum. In the year 1881, it was published for the first time and the credit for its collection and compilation goes to two persons namely Jorgen Moe and Christen Asbjornsen. They published it along with some other Norwegian fairytales in a magazine called Norske Folkeeventyr. The first English version of this story came out in the year 1859 when George Webbe Dasent published it. For BBC radio an edited version was made which aired from 1950 to early 1960. For the very first time ThreeBilly Goats Gruff was adapted for a musical by famous director Gwen Edwards, it was first performed in the summer of 2007 at the Barter Theater in Virginia. The story has been used as reference in a number of other books like Stephen King's It, Jim Butcher Dresden Files and Terry Pratchett's Monstrous Regiment.
Three Billy Goats Gruff is the story of three goats which in some versions are termed as brothers and in some they are called grandfather, father and son. These three goats live in a pasture and when the grass in the pasture becomes scarce they decide to cross a bridge and go on the other side of the land which is full of fresh green grass but the problem is that the bridge is guarded by a giant sized troll who eats everyone that crosses. The young goat passes and when the troll is ready to eat it the goat says that I am very small please let me go another bigger goat is coming you can eat it so he passes then the bigger goat crosses and when the troll stops it he repeats the same words and the troll let it cross. When the biggest of the goats is about to cross the bridge the troll stops it and is ready to eat it but as this goat is much bigger than the rest of the two and also has long horn he rams into the troll and topples him over the bridge. The three Billy goats eventually reach the lush green pasture on the other side of the bridge and start living happily ever after. This story gives a message to the kids that team work is the key to success.
