The Gassner Prize winner and Off Broadway play, The Truth Quotient is a show to watch out for this season. It is an effort of Resonance Ensemble, a production house that will be celebrating it's ten years this season. The Ensemble will partner with the Connecting Circuits as a part of this celebration. This team brings a duo of wonderful show; the first one is a classic play R.U.R and the other second on is The Truth Quotient.
The Truth Quotient is a brand new addition Off Broadway, created by award-winning playwright Richard Manley. The cast of the show features lead performances by Jarel Davidow and Angelina Fiordellisi. Davidow is an established theater and film actor who has proved himself in Of Mice and Men, Taking a Chance on America, New Detroit and Fillmore Lights. Fiordellisi has come to Broadway way from TV series Thunder Alley. As a new entry she has worked very hard and has done justice to her role. The supporting cast is also strong with Maxwell Zener who has played roles in plays like The Importance of Being Earnest and Strange Bedfellows. Meredith Howard from the fame RINO and television show I Married a Monster, Shaun Bennet Wilson of Advance Man and Shakespeare's Slave and Mark Peters are also on board.
The Truth Quotient tells the story of our future where the importance of technology has taken over everything. Man in the race of winning over the world with technology, gives up on the importance of relationships. He changes the way society and people live together. The plot presents a time in the future, a couple of years from today; it sees how man who had become lonely and how he tries to overcome this gap. Apart from loneliness, another thing that goes missing is loving someone and the feeling of being loved. This also comes up as a challenge but the solution to which is only affordable to the rich and tech savvy.
David played by Davidow is a successful entrepreneur who feels longing for love and companionship. Despite of having fame and fortune, he feels empty and alienated inside of him. To overcome this weakness and shortcoming, he ties to find happiness in artificial beings or Robots. Nureal a company that provides custom made robots who provide the companionship David desires. Everything about the play from the storyline to the direction and production has worked really well. The production aspects of the play were very important for its success. As a science fiction play, the set design and appearance of the characters had to be every strong. The artistic design of the play was well handled by the team; especially the scenic design by Jen Varbalow, costume design by Sidney Shanno and lightning design by Pamela Kupper. All three artists have helped in creating every scene perfectly. They have made future as Manley's wishes and have completed the backdrop wonderfully. The background music is splendid and captures all overall futuristic mood of the plot. It reflects on the emotions just right, the credit of which goes to sound designer and composer Nick Moore Claire. Claire has made a very modern and touching score, that carries emotionality in the play all the way to the end.
The Truth Quotient is a quality play that is already making waves in theater circuits. The show has been receiving great attention from public and critics alike. It has gotten accolades and praise from the print and electronic media as well. More importantly, the success quotient of the play has gone really up since it was showcased at the Ashland New Play Festival; where it outshined all other productions by winning the festival. The play also became a hit for its script when it went all the way to the finals of the STAGE International Script Competition in the category of the best new play about science and technology. It was staged at the Dayton Playhouse FutureFest and the Reverie Productions' Next Generation Playwriting Contests. The Woodward/Newman Awards also acknowledged the quality of all the elements of the play when the play was presented there. The play also became the semi finalist of the Orlando Shakespeare Festival.
