The Rise of a Legend
While trying her luck to become an actress, Donna Summer started to focus on singing and soon caught the attention of the famous music producers, Pete Bellotte and Georgio Moroder. She then signed with Casablanca Records and issued her studio album, 'Love to Love You Baby' in 1975. Produced by Bellotte, the record became an international hit, going gold in Canada, France and the United Kingdome. It also achieved platinum status in the U.S. From that point onwards, Summer went on to complete the decade by releasing three gold and one platinum record. She also came out with one multi-platinum effort, 'Bad Girls' during that decade which sold more than three million copies in the U.S.
Following the '70s, Donna Summer continued to rule the R&B scene and spawned records like 'The Wanderer' and 'She Works Hard for the Money' both of which achieved gold status in the States. During her iconic journey, Summer has gone on to sell more than 100 million records worldwide and was also included in the Billboard's list of the, 'Greatest of All Time Top Dance Club Artists.' Moreover, she has won five Grammys and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

After the demise of Donna Summer in 2012, the world of R&B wasn't the same. Due to the fact that how strongly her music impacted everyone's life, it was decided to launch a musical based on her life and career. This idea saw the light of day in 2017 when the musical made its debut at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego.
On March 28, 2018, the show opened on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in Manhattan. Directed by Des McAnuff, Summer turned out to be a hit and ran for 289 performances before the production closed on December 30, 2018. The show has been received well by different publications including, Entertainment Weekly, Chicago Tribune, Vogue, The Hollywood Reporter, New York Magazine and New York Daily News.
Touring North America
Summer: The Donna Summer Musical is currently on its national tour. The show is scheduled to run for four shows in St. Louis from January 15 to 17, 2020. It will then go on to be performed in cities like, Denver, Chicago, Durham, Toronto, Tampa, Miami and Nashville. The tour will be concluded on June 9, 2020.
