The much anticipated third play of Tuna Trilogy, Red, White and Tuna is ready to take the audiences on another journey into the hearts and minds of Tuna's citizens. Along with Tuna's perennial favorites, some new outlandish characters also enter the scene during 4th July reunion. The stage is all set to dazzle the audiences with spectacular fireworks and hilarious acts. Buy Red, White and Tuna tickets and enter the land of Tuna where the Lion's Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies.
The Tuna Productions began as a simple skit based on a political cartoon more than twenty years ago. Now Jaston Williams, Ed Howard and Joe Sears have expanded that sketch, creating several storylines and critically acclaimed productions that have been entertaining the audiences all around the country. Preceded by Greater Tuna and A Tuna Christmas, Red, White and Tuna is a comedic play set in the fictional town of Tuna. Written by Sears, Williams and Howard, the plays comment on Southern life-style and attitude of a small town in Texas named Tuna. The plays are notable for two men playing the role of entire cast consisting of more than twenty characters including both genders and various ages.
Red, White and Tuna debuted in 1988. Jaston Williams and Joe Sears play all the roles written in the play. The show begins with two new age hippie friends going back to Tuna to meet their old friends in a 4th July reunion and Fireworks display. The next morning local radio station OKKK signs on and two DJS start giving daily announcements including dropping out of two candidates from Reunion queen contest. The show also touches various serious topics including independence and freedom and animal rights. Other characters include Bertha and Petey and their discussion after which Petey gives Bertha a new cat, Bertha's extremely pregnant daughter Charlene having her fits over her military husband and Bertha's son Stanley who is skipping the reunion to meet Aunt Pearl. Bertha goes to Didi's shop and as she is preparing to get married to Arles, Stanley is annoyed and disgusted.
While Bertha's and Arles' romance blossoms, Stanley tries to make his fortune in the Alburquerque taxidermy business and Didi waits to receive "cosmic" communications from her husband's UFO. Altogether 24 different characters appear in the show and two comic masters ignite the stage changing costumes and their voices and presenting the side-splitting spoof of life in rural America with brilliance. The final costume change is done off-stage in full view of the audience to everyone's surprise.
Red, White and Tuna has been nominated for Helen Hayes Awards for outstanding Non-resident Production in 2000. Both Joe Sears and Jaston Williams were nominated in the category of Outstanding Lead actor.
Sears and Williams regularly tour the country performing the play and receiving critical acclaim. While the play is currently not available on DVD or VHS, Red, White and Tuna tickets would be a great opportunity to enjoy it live. Spend the summer celebrating the independence with denizens of Tuna who will have you laughing until it hurts. Enjoy the small town life in rural Texas in this hilarious new show.
