Miguel Rafael Martos Sanchez, simply known as Raphael is a Latin singer and actor belonging to Linares, Spain. He is widely famous by his nicknames "El Divo de Linares" meaning "Divo of Linares" and "El Ruisenor de Linares" meaning "Nightingale of Linares." All across the globe, he is considered as one of the pioneers of the modern touch in Spanish music. Raphael started to sing when he was only three years old and by the time he was four, he was singing in the school choir. Raphael started off his musical career on a professional level after signing to Philips, a Dutch label. Here his long musical relationship with the musical director Waldo de los Rios began. While working with this record he also met Manuel Alejandro, the famous Spanish songwriter who wrote several songs for him throughout his career.
 
Raphael was representative of Spain in Eurovision Song Contest XII and XIII held in Luxembourg. The songs he sang were Vienna and Yo Soy Aquel (which later became his signature song) Although he didn't manage to win any award he won sixth and seventh position. It was the very first time that any Spanish singer had won a high position in the contest. This competition was a turning point in Raphael's music career, making him one of the international stars. He started touring all across the globe, going to Latin America, Europe, Japan, Russia and the United States. His singles ranked him among one of the major stars of his genre around the globe.
 

It was then that Raphael also stepped into the film industry, winning roles in movies such as Cuondo tu no estas and Al ponerse el Sol. Soon he won critical acclaim in both industries, especially within Latin America.
