Penn & Teller is a headlining Las Vegas act who has been performing together since 1975. Their act includes magic tricks, comedy, mime, and storytelling. Penn Jillette and Raymond Joseph Teller first became a team when Weir Chrisimer introduced them to each other in 1975. From then on, they performed for the first time as a team as Penn & Teller at the "Minnesota Renaissance Festival." Penn Teller have famously revealed the tricks to their magic and illusions in several of their shows. While they do not reveal all of them, some acts have been specially designed by them to get the audience more engaged in their performances.

Their performing style relies heavily on the element of surprise and shocking the audience with violent imagery, but this is done in a humorous manner. For example, one of their famous tricks is the "bullet catch illusion" where one shoots a gun and the other catches the bullet in the mouth. Another includes the trick where Teller gets run over by an 18-wheel trailer.

Sometimes, they also discuss the foundations and concept behind the magic trick they are performing. One of the acts that have attracted the most controversy is the flag trick. In this act, they wrap a US flag in a copy of the US Bill of Rights and set the flag on fire so that only the Bill of Rights remains. This trick represents their often talked about libertarian views on politics and religion. In other versions of the trick, they make the flag reappear and place it on a flagpole but famously omitted this part when demonstrating this trick on the television show, "The West Wing."

Penn & Teller have publicly discussed their abstinence from drugs and alcohol and even caffeine. Penn claims that she has never consumed alcohol and cannot even withstand some of her prescription drugs. They have also commented many times how an off-stage relationship between the two does not exist.
