Oklahoma Cities

For those of you who love to go to the theater, you are in for a treat as librettist Oscar Hammerstein II and composer Richard Rodgers are joining forces to give you a smashing musical. Oklahoma is a show that has been selling like hot cakes ever since the show was debuted. The show is based on a play called Green Grow the Lilacs by Lynn Riggs, which was released in the year 1931.

The first production of Oklahoma was opened on the 31st of March, 1943 to an extremely enthusiastic audience and went on to become an enormous success. It was shown for more than two-thousand performances and became a box office hit, later having a film adaptation, foreign productions, national tours, and award winning revivals.

The musical is set in the year 1906 in Oklahoma Territory. The plot of the play revolves around farm girl Laurey Williams and his romance with cowboy Curly McLain. Some of the other characters in the play include Ado Annie and Will Parker. In the year 1944, the musical received a Pulitzer Prize for Special Awards and Citations ? Letters.
