The band signed with a recording label named Polydor to record their debut album, Faust. The album did not do as well as they had hoped, despite favorable reviews, and the group eventually changed their recording company, signing to Richard Branson's Virgin Records. The band turned into one of the first groups to create music which eventually came to be called krautrock. The group has a devoted fan following and is appreciated all over the world for their innovative and unique music. With the new contract in hand, Faust began to work on their next album, which was titled The Faust Tapes. The record was a cut and past collection which consisted of several songs from their private recordings. The album managed to sell more than a hundred thousand copies worldwide.

The band has released numerous hit songs and albums over the course of their career. Some of their most popular albums include Faust So Far, The Faust Tapes, Outside the Dream, Syndicate, which was a collaboration with Tony Conrad, You Know FaUSt, Faust Wakes Nosferatu, Derbe Respect, Outside the Dream Syndicate Alive, C'est Com ...
