An Act of God is the newest sensation in the theatre world. The satirical comedy play stars The Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons as Almighty God in the lead role. It is based on the best-selling book The Last Testament: A Memoir penned down by David Javerbaum, who is acting as the scribe of God. The play is brilliantly directed by one of the most lauded stage directors currently around, Joe Mantello. The Almighty God, or Jim Parsons in this case, along with two of His most trusty archangels will make their debut on Broadway in spring 2015. This three man show will have a strictly limited engagement at Studio 54 of the Roundabout Theatre Company. So grab An Act of God tickets and enjoy the show.
The story of the play centers on God Almighty, as he takes the stage to shed some light on His affairs. In their ninety minutes in the limelight, the Almighty and His archangels explore the events of history since the creation of the universe till now. Archangel Michael, who is funny and impulsive, is portrayed as the most irreverent of all angels. On the other hand, the tone is set straight by the works-strictly-by-the-book Archangel Gabriel.
The Almighty along with Gabe and Mike will answer some of the questions that have boggled humanity since before Adam met Eve. Not only does the trio discuss matters of magnitude but they also speculate on Hollywood. Once and for all, the Almighty God is here to set all the records straight. by Himself.
As David Javerbaum implies, the book, and now the play, are adaptations that he transcribed but were originally written by God. The narrative is set in a way to make it sound like the Word of the Lord. A critically acclaimed writer, Javerbaum has won over a dozen Emmy Awards. His other works on television include The Late Late Show with James Corden, The Late Show with David Letterman and Beavis and Butthead among others. His literary work includes "A Quantum Theory of Mitt Romney," and writings for The Harvard Lampoon and Our Dumb Century.
Working on the directorial front on An Act of God is the two-time Tony Award winner, Joe Mantello. He won widespread critical acclaim for his Broadway productions Assassins, Wicked and Take Me Out. His filmography consists of notable titles such as The Normal Heart, Law & Order, Sisters and Love! Valour! Compassion! Over the years, Mantello has received numerous awards and accolades from prestigious theatre institutions. At the Drama Desk Awards, he has nabbed two wins from eight nominations. He has also been nominated four other times apart from his two wins at the Tony Awards.
With comedy giant David Javerbaum and theatre superstar Joe Mantello already at the helm of the project, the play became a bona fide blockbuster when Jim Parsons took the lead. Parsons, renowned worldwide for being Sheldon Cooper on the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory, has garnered international recognition and a cult following. For this role, he has won four Emmy Awards for 'Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series' and a Golden Globe Award.
Parsons made his debut on Broadway with the portrayal of Tommy Boatwright in Larry Kramer's play The Normal Heart. The list of movies and television shows he has starred in includes titles such as The Muppets, 10 Items or Less, Garden State and Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas.
The award winning writer, director and actor, are now bringing An Act of God to the stage for a limited engagement. The play will be hosted by the Roundabout Theatre Company's Studio 54 on Broadway. The funny miraculous trip through God Almighty's woes will put Him on the center stage to be the master of ceremonies for the audience. So grab An Act of God tickets and get the chance to witness the show live.
