The Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM) are one of the most prestigious country music awards in the US. The first achievement year was a memorable one when Eddie Miller and Tommy Wiggins arranged with club owners Chris and Mickey Christensen to create the Country & Western Music Academy. Established in Los Angeles, California, the esteemed Academy’s primary goal was to promote the country music in the western US states. The top of the top award at ACM is titled ‘Entertainer of the Year’ which began from the sixth ceremony onwards and continues till now. Garth Brooks is the leading artist with six awards for the ‘Entertainer of the Year’ that includes four consecutive wins. The band Alabama follow with five wins while Kenny Chesney lands at the third place with four consecutive wins.

The ‘Artist of the Decade’ is a proud ‘hat’ trophy that has adorned the shelves of five artists and a band so far. The ‘60s decade was nabbed by Marty Robbins while Loretta Lynn was honored for the ‘70s. The band Alabama took over the the ‘80s and the ‘90s decade was dominated by Garth Brooks. The 2000’s decade is heralded by George Strait. Another high achievement at the ACM is the ‘Triple-Crown Award’. It is presented to the artist who wins in all three categories; ‘Top New Vocalist’, ‘Top Vocalist’ and ‘Entertainer of the Year’. So far only five acts have been crowned with the ‘Triple-Crown Award’ including Carrie Underwood, Barbara Mandrell, Mickey Gilley, Merle Haggard and Kenny Chesney.

The Academy of Country Music Awards is now heading to fifty years of entertainment and appreciation. In 2015, the fiftieth anniversary ceremony is to be held with headlining country music acts returning to the stage. Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton who have been hosting the ceremony since 2012 will be resuming their responsibilities. The golden anniversary will bring to stage renowned names such as Eric Church, Kenny Chesney, Reba, Garth Brooks, George Strait, Florida Georgia Line, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, Dierks Bentley, Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban. The rising country stars Thomas Rhett, Cole Swindell and Sam Hunt will debut on the ACM as well. The leading artist with most nominees for the fiftieth ACM Awards is Miranda Lambert with eight. She is closely followed by Dierks Bentley with seven and Florida Georgia Line with five.

The ceremony is to be one of the biggest country music event of the year. With a history of half a decade, the ACM will be showcasing special awards and honors at the ceremony.
