Born in 1960, Bruce Norris is an award-winning playwright and actor. Winning the "Pulitzer Prize for Drama" in 2011 for his play titled Clybourne Park, Norris has also received the "Steinberg Playwright Award" in 2009. Initially the talented writer decided to pursue a career in acting after obtaining a degree from the Northwestern University back in 1982. He was seen performing at renowned theatrical venues such as Steppenwolf Theater, the Goodman Theater and Victory Gardens Theater, to name a few. Norris was also seen performing in several Broadway presentations, some of which include Wrong Mountain, directed by David Harison, An American Daughter created by Wendy Wasserstein and Biloxi Blues directed by Neil Simon.
With these roles, Norris decided to start creating his own storylines and came forth with his first play titled "The Actor Retires" in 1992. Since then he has been creating masterpieces that have been produced by the Steppenwolf Theater. Some of the productions include "Domesticated" and "The Low Road" created in 2013, "A Parallelogram" brought forth in 2010, 2009's "Clybourne Park", 2006's "The Unmentionables" and "The Pain and the Itch" showcased in 2004. To date his most popular play is "Clybourne Park" that won awards namely Tony Award, Laurence Olivier Award, Theater World Award and Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
This time the talented Bruce Norris pairs up with director, Anna D. Shapiro to present an upcoming presentation of A Parallelogram. Born in 1967, Shapiro is from Evanston, Illinois. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Columbia University and then enrolled in the prestigious Yale School of Drama. She was awarded the Princess Grace Award in 1996. After graduating, Shapiro joined the Northwestern University as a faculty member and started working as the head in the Graduate Directing Program. During this time she also became affiliated with the Steppenwolf Theater, directing plays for the institution on a regular basis. She now holds the position of resident director while also serving as an Artistic Associate. Her directorial repertoire include plays namely Brooke Berman's Until We Find Each Other, Bruce Norris's The Pain and the Itch and The Infidel and Alexandra Gersten- Vassilaros' The Ordinary Yearning of Miriam Buddwing. She has also directed several Galway productions namely Three Days of Rain, Purple Heart, I Never Sang for my Father, Man from Nebraska and Drawer Boy. Shapiro has won numerous awards for her presentations including Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics' Circle and Jefferson Awards for "Best Director" and "Outstanding Director".
