The revival was an immense hit that went for one thousand five hundred and twenty four performances and won the Tony award for Best Revival. It went on a tour of the UK in 2007 which was followed up by a tour of Asia to huge acclaim.The story of 42^nd Street revolves around Peggy Sawyer, a young aspiring actress who comes to New York to audition for a Broadway musical Pretty Lady.  Due to her nervousness she gets late for the auditions but comes across Billy, the lead actor of the musical who helps her to meet the director Julian Marsh who rejects her. Humiliated by the whole episode Peggy leaves the building while the ageing lead actress Dorothy Brock comes to perform. Julian has his reservations about Dorothy but he puts up with her because Abner Dillon, her sugar daddy is financing the show. Meanwhile Peggy finds out that she has left her purse at the theater so she goes back to collect it and that is when fate intervenes and the story takes one twist after another to turn Peggy into a superstar overnight.The 42^nd Street is a true trendsetter play in many respects.
