Albuquerque Isotopes Tickets

The Albuquerque Isotopes is a baseball team in the Pacific Coast League, based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Albuquerque was represented in the PCL by the Albuquerque Dukes. The Dukes had won several PCL championships both in the 1970s and 1980s before it was relocated to Portland, Oregon under the title Portland Beavers in 2001.

The Isotopes started playing in 2003 after the Calgary Cannons were shifted to New Mexico. Currently, the Topes are the top minor league partner of the National League's Florida Marlins.Isotopes Park

When the Dukes left the city of Albuquerque, most of the places associated with the baseball team were brought down, including the team's home and the famous Albuquerque Sports Stadium. However, the only place that remained intact till this day is the team's playing field. Later a new up-to-date stadium has been built around the existing field. This new stadium was inaugurated in 2003 and named as Isotopes Park. The most unique feature of the old Albuquerque Sports Stadium was its drive-in area, which let fans sit in their cars and watch the games across the field fence. The new stadium initially provided this drive-in area but later the Isotopes management closed it due to security concerns and turned it into a children's playing area.

The Isotopes Park boasts a hill in the center of the field, similar to one in the Houston Astros' stadium, Minute Maid Park. Ever since it's opening, the Isotopes Park has been ranked as the top five minor league ballparks in the nation. The Name Isotopes

The Isotopes' mascot is a big fuzzy electron, Orbit. It was inspired from the fictional Springfield Isotopes of the famous TV series The Simpsons. In one of the episodes, Homer Simpson makes an attempt to stop the plan of the team of moving to Albuquerque. This episode became so popular among people, that in an Albuquerque Tribune Online Survey, 67 percent of people voted to name the team as Isotopes.Generating Greater Revenue

The President of the team, Ken Young accepted that the name was influenced from the Simpson series and it was chosen because it had some familiarity with Albuquerque. After the name was announced in September 2002, it was seen that the team sold more merchandise than the city's former team, the Dukes. This was largely due to the inspiration of the name taken from the Simpson series. However, the team accepted that they had no working agreements with FOX TV or the TV Play The Simpsons

Naming a baseball team asIsotopes does not sound very convincing though. This is because New Mexico has a couple of Scientific Laboratories, dealing with nuclear Technology, including the Los Alamos National Laboratory, the Sandia National Laboratories and the Waste Isolation Project (WIPP). Additionally, New Mexico also hosted their first nuclear weapon test, the Trinity test.
