Rowing is among the most popular water sports on the planet, a fact emphasized by the fact it is on the list of the oldest Olympic sports today. The sport has a history that dates back to around the thirteenth century. Over the years it evolved and the first rowing competition resembling anything close to what we see today was held at "River Thames" in London. That was a start of a rowing more or less as it is seen today. "Doggett's Coat and Badge" race then came to the fore in the year 1715. This historic rowing contest is still held every year which sees competitors make their way from the "London Bridge" to "Chelsea" in what is now the oldest rowing competition in the world.
Rowing then went on to be played in other parts of the globe too. A lot of that was down to the formation of "Fédération Internationale des Sociétés d'Aviron" in the year 1892. It is also known as "FISA" or the "International Rowing Federation." The first ever event, the "European Rowing Championships," under the FISA umbrella was held in 1893 and the sport has gone from strength to strength since then.
The World Rowing Junior Championships is organized and looked after by the FISA as well. The idea behind the staging of the competition was to provide aspiring rowers the chance to show their talent. Rowers from countries that are FISA members are eligible to take part in the event. The rower needs to be eighteen years old or younger to compete in the championships. A competitor is classified as a junior till 31st December of any year during which he turns eighteen. Once the date passes, the rower makes the jump to under 23 class.
The World Rowing Junior Championships began in 1967 as the "FISA Youth Regatta." "Ratzeburg" from Germany won that inaugural edition. The name was changed to "FISA Junior Champs" in the year 1970 and to its current one fifteen years later. Around six hundred young rowers from fifty different countries now take part in this annual extravaganza. The most promising young rowers will be giving it all they have got this year around as well. It promises to be another special edition of one of the most prestigious rowing competitions in the world. Now that it isn't too far away, this is your chance to book World Rowing Junior Championships tickets and catch all the action live.
