Joe Walsh is an American rock artist from Wichita, Kansas who has been active in the world of rock and hard rock music since 1964. Best known as one of the members of the Eagles, a legendary rock band, he is a singer, a songwriter, a producer, an actor and a musician who plays many instruments including the guitar, bass, keyboards, mandolin, drums, bagpipes, oboe and clarinet. Aside from albums with groups such as the Eagles, he has released several solo albums through record labels such as ABC Records, Asylum Records and Epic Records. He has been associated with groups such as Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, Eagles, James Gang and Barnstorm and performed live for many to see with Walsh tickets.
Not only has Joe Walsh been a member of the Eagles but also of two more famous bands; Barnstorm and James Gang. As a solo artist, his music has sold many copies and he has performed as a session musician with the likes of Dan Fogelberg and B. B. King. He is ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. Though he was born in Wichita, Kansas, he grew up in Columbus, Ohio. At a young age, he grew fond of music with his mother being a classically trained pianist. He lived in many more cities after including New York City and Montclair in New Jersey. After graduating from the Montclair High School, he went to study at the Kent State University. During this time, he played in several bands located in Cleveland.
Joe Walsh entered the world of professional music when he joined the James Gang as the band’s lead guitarist after former guitarist Glen Schwartz left. He went on to become the star attraction of the band, known far and wide for his creative guitar riffs and rhythm playing. He was also known for his trademark attack sound, made by hot-wiring pickups on electric guitars. After two very successful albums, he left the band and founded yet another famous band, Barnstorm, in 1971. In 1972, the new band’s first self-titled album was released which was a massive hit, commercially and critically. In 1973, Barnstorm’s second album, The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get was released and was a commercial hit with its singles ranking high on the charts.
In 1974, Joe Walsh released his first solo studio album titled as So What, following it up with a live album in 1976. A year before, he became a member of the Eagles after Bernie Leadon left and was responsible for leading to a heavier sound, as seen in the group’s most famous album, Hotel California. He also co-wrote two hit singles from the album. In 1978, he released yet anther solo album with two hit singles. In 1979, one of his songs landed in the soundtrack of the 1978 hit movie, The Warriors.
During the eighties, Joe Walsh went on to perform with The Party Boys, an Australian all-star band, when Paul Christie invited him. He toured alongside Ringo Starr in 1989 and went on to sing the national anthem at the 1995 World Series. He also joined the band, The Best, and went on to tour with it as far as Japan and all over the US, including Hawaii. In 1994, he was part of the Eagles highly successful reunion of which a live album was also released. Since then, he has toured heavily with the Eagles all over the world and even released the band’s first album after twenty eight long years, titled as Long Road Out of Eden.
