Wake Forest's Demons Deacons is a name of a group of athletic teams, which were known as the Fighting Baptists, at the start of inception. It was all due to its association with the Baptist Convention, from which it had separated at a later stage.

It happened in the year of 1923, when they had a very good attempt against the Duke Blue Devils. One of the reporter of a newspaper, mention the team as the Deacons fighting like Demons, which had happened to be a shift in the name of the team.

It is worth mentioning that Wake Forest has really won a total of eight national championships in four different sports, the past six years were of a real importance in the regard.

The team is also at times referred to as being a part of "Tobacco Road" or the "The Big Four", these are the terms associated with the four North Carolina schools in constant competition with each other.

All these schools include Duke University, North Carolina, and North Carolina State, as well as Wake Forest.

They had won the 2006 ACC Atlantic Division Title and ACC Conference Championship of the same year by giving defeat to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 9-6 on December 2 in the ACC Championship Game in Jacksonville, FL.

Their success had opened a gateway for them to play Big East champion Louisville, they could not succeed against the Cardinals. But they really created history being the smallest school to ever compete in the Bowl Championship Series.

Quite interestingly Wake Forest had continued to travel on the path of success, even in the year of 2007, as they had finished the regular season with a record of 8 wins and 4 losses. They had been ranked at the number 25, for a brief period of time.

Their successful career growth had opened many doors for them, as they had got an invitation from the Meineke Car Care Bowl in the town of Charlotte of North Carolina. The game had been played at the Bank of America stadium on December 29- 2007.

Jim Grobe has proved to be a wonderful head coach for the Wake Forest, as he has gained a lot of national attention as an outstanding college football coach.

Despite being offered with the positions at several schools, Grobe had chosen to remain with the Deacons much to the relief of Wake fans. Wake Forest plays its home football games at BB&T Field.
