The Broncos football team became a part of the Michigan Collegiate Conference in 1927, before joining their current conference in 1946. Until 1939, they were referred to as the Hilltoppers. They played in the first International Bowl in 2007, held in Toronto, Canada. The Broncos have competed in several bowl games, unfortunately losing all of them, including Aviation Bowl (1961), California Bowl (1988), International Bowl (2007), Texas Bowl (2008) and the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl (2011).
