Us Figure Skating Championships Tickets

The history of US Figure Skating dates back to 1921 when it emerged as a national body to promote the sport at all levels. Having its headquarters in Colorado Springs, it is recognized by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and is affiliated with International Skating Union (ISU). Since the US Figure Skating fostesr the sport, it offers a vast array of programs that range from basic skills to the further development of techniques. Also commonly known as the “nationals”, the competition accounts for three levels; Senior, Junior and Novice and the awards are given away in four categories; Ladies Singles, Men’s Singles, Pairs and Ice Dance. The US Figure Skating Championships produce four winners representing the four colors of the medals; Gold, Silver, Bronze and Pewter denoting first, second, third and fourth positions. The nine regional competitions form the basis of the qualification for the US Figure Skating Championships. They are New England, North Atlantic, South Atlantic, Southwestern, Northwest Pacific, Southwest Pacific, Central Pacific, Upper Great Lakes and Eastern Great Lakes. The top four winners from the regional competitions enter one of the three sectional competitions (Eastern, Midwestern and Pacific Coast). Another set of top four winners from these enter the US Championships. Competitors can also advance to the championships without playing in the prior competitions by receiving byes which have a set of rules and regulations. In the past the US Figure Skating Championships have been held in different cities such as New York City, Denver, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Spokane, Nashville, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Portland, Dallas, Boston, Providence, Salt Lake City etc. The 1920 championship was held in the New York City at the Iceland Rink where Sherwin Badger, Nathaniel Niles and Petros Wahlam bagged victory with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively.

On the other hand, Theresa Weld, Martha Brown and Lilian Cramer walked away with Gold, Silver and Bronze in the Ladies Singles category. The same year Theresa Weld/Nathaniel Niles and Edith Rotch/Sherwin Badger swept the Gold and Silver medals as pairs. In the past, others who have claimed the championship in are; Todd Eldrege, Scott Davis, Michael Weiss, Johnny Weir, Jeremy Abbott, Scott Hamilton, Charles Tickner, Christopher Bowman etc in the Men’s Singles category. Whereas, Suzanne Davis, Joan Tozzer, Jane Vaughn, Gretchen Merrill, Carol Heiss, Laurence Owen, Barbara Roles Pursley and Michelle Kwan are only a handful of Gold medalists among many in the Ladies Singles category.  Andre Anderson/Donald Jacoby; Lorna Dyer/John Carrell; Sally Schantz/Stanley Urban; Meryl Davis/Charlie White; Naomi Lang/Peter Tchernyshev are among the names representing the gold medals in Ice Dance.
