L' Union Football Sampdoria, also known as UC Sampdoria or, more simply, Samp, is an Italian football club. It is based in Genoa and was formed on the 12th of August 1946 by the merger of the Sampierdarenese and Andrea Doria. UC Sampdoria plays in the Serie A , the top Italian football league. The team's training takes place at the Centro Sportivo Gloriano Mugnaini in Bogliasco. The Mantovani presidency ended in the year 2002, when the heir Henry gave the company to Riccardo Garrone. From the 20th of May 2011 Edoardo Garrone, son of Richard, has officially been the new vice president.
As of December 2002, the registerted offices of Sampdoria moved from the Melograno Building, to the Corte Lambruschini. The change, strongly wanted by the new ownership, marks a turning point in passing from the old historical center of a modern skyscraper.
Located on two floors of the tower B, respectively of seven hundred and one hundred and fifty square feet on the lower floor it is entirely dedicated to the youth sector. The facility is equipped with all the modern technological gadgets, from four monitors at the entrance for visitors to the video room with a dozen televisions, cable boxes and recorders dedicated to the monitoring of football leagues around the world.
The team has blue, white, red and black as their uniform colors and has Baciccia as its symbol on the badge. Sampdoria play their home games at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium, located in the district of Marassi. The stadium was built in 1911 and was completely renovated during the World Cup Italy '90. It is a typical "English" type of a stadium with the bleachers and stands very close to the field, one of the few of its type in Italy.
